Instructional Delivery Methods that Support Learning
- Start each class with an introduction of what will be covered and provide a brief review of the previous session.
- Break each class into segments by asking or posting a question and giving students time to discuss this in a small group or with a partner.
- Speak clearly and at a pace that allows students to take notes.
- Modulate your voice to emphasize important points.
- Highlight and summarize key concepts and explain how they relate to session or course objectives.
- Use graphic organizers to help students arrange information in meaningful ways.
- Employ active learning strategies to promote recall and understanding of new material (e.g. online poll tools).
- Consider recording lectures and making them available via podcasts.
- End each class with a brief summary of what has been covered.
- Provide supports for learning such as outlines, audios of lectures, PowerPoints and study guides.
